内容梗概 (abstract) Over the last decade, it has become clear that empirical studies are a fundamental component of software engineering research and practice. In empirical studies, we examine various technologies used in Software Engineering, based on empirical data collected from software development projects in academic or industrial environments. We can find many research papers concerning empirical topics in major conferences in software engineering. For example, in the International Conference on Software Engineering 2011 (ICSE 2011), one of the most authoritative conferences in the software engineering field, 62 papers were accepted, and out of those 62, 17 papers were categorized as empirical research in software engineering, a little over one fourth of the papers.
Today, we have a better chance to access real software development data than ever before. For example, most open source software development projects provide us with not only their source code but also with development data maintained by the version control system and the bug tracking system. Such data represent their development activities in a quantitative way. That means we can use such data to understand and evaluate new concepts of software development such as cloud computing, ubiquitous computing, SaaS, and so on, in order to put them to use in the right places in real software projects. Now is the time to put software measurement techniques to use everywhere.
This talk will address the framework of empirical software engineering and several empirical studies in academic and industrial environments.
